After spending time in Galapagos we headed to Ecuador, and you would think it would be hard to meet such high expectations after the Galapagos but Ecuador was equally amazing. I remember waking up to view that overlooked the city and as we walked through the streets I could feel the life in the city of Quito. We visited “La calle de las siete cruces” or “the street of seven crosses” where we learned about Quito’s history and the construction of its churches. One church “The church of the society of Jesus” blew my mind with its abundant use of gold and intricate carvings as far as the eye could see. One of our days we hiked to the top of the volcano Ruku Pichinchu which stood at more than 15,000ft. And coming from Ohio I had never felt the impact of altitude until then! I wasn’t sure if I could make it but I did and the beautiful view at the top and sense of accomplishment made it worth every step. It was fun to ring in the new year with some local traditions. We made our own puppet to burn in the fire which symbolized burning all of the bad things that happened in 2015 and saw men dressed as women dancing in the streets asking for money in honor of their deceased mothers. We had the last dinner of the old year right before midnight and welcomed the new year by jumping through the fire symbolizing being reborn again. To perfect the night the new year was accompanied by a full moon which is a coincidence that only happens every six years. After new year we traveled with the local people to the waterfall to purify ourselves and also visited the leather and textile market places in Otavalo and Cotacachi.
Special thanks to Tour Guide Ecuador for an experience of a lifetime! I hope I can visit Ecuador again soon!!
Very good professional driving. Excellent knowledge + good people skills 10/10
My husband and I just completed a trip to the highlands of Ecuador. Our itinerary was for two weeks and included Quito, Otavalo, Banos, Riobamba, as well as Cuenca. Our guide was Andres and he travelled with us for the entire time. The highlands of Ecuador are amazing! We come from the Rocky Mountains of Canada but the Andes are totally different. Andres made a huge difference on this trip for us. He was so knowledgeable about his country, the history and people. He was genuinely interested in us as well as our wellbeing. His easy going personality and sense of humour made it really fun for us. It was important to him that we experienced the local Ecuador, including the food and the people. We hiked, biked, rafted, as well as toured the countryside, ruins and the old cities. We definitely want to come back here and the experience we had with Andres is a big part of that.
We hired Juan Carlos as a guide for a day in Quito after reading about him in the New York Times (Seth Kugel, February 3, 2016). We were very happy that we did. We covered a lot of ground in one day, from sites out side of Quito, to churches, to market, and to out-of-the way restaurants for tastings. And like the NYT writer, I was “cleansed” by thrashing with herbs ($5 plus the cost of an egg to pass over me!) Juan Carlos is very pleasant and has exceptional knowledge of many areas. A day with him makes Quito all the more memorable. And one more thing: After our trip, we were missing a coat, which we had left in one of the restaurants. Juan Carlos later recovered it and is helping us to get it sent back to us in the States.

This day couldn’t be better!! Than you so much for your great care & funny conversations! Thank you andres

I really appreciated my experience with Andrew. He was really avenant and did all to help us. More than all, he got hudge knowledges about Ecuador and speak very well English and French.
Thanks for all
Andres is very knowledgeable. Answered all of our questions and was so interesting!!!
Really enjoyed the Equator exhibits., We see condors + other birds day was very good. thank you tour guide ecuador
thank you for a fantastic day.
The day my husband and I took a tour to Antisana with Andres was among the best of my life. We went specifically to see highland birds. I figured we had about a 40% chance of seeing Andean condors. When Andres picked us up at our B&B in Quito (a nice service), he promised us that we would see condors. But he did not promise us what we actually saw: sightings of about ten condors, two flying low and directly over us! How magnificent and huge beyond belief! This, by itself, was worth every penny, but we enjoyed so much more: black-faced ibis, Andean lapwing, carunculated caracara, giant hummingbird, Andean hillstar, shining sunbeam, tawny antpitta, and so much more—25 species total, respectable for such high elevation.
As professional ornithologists, the birds, of course, were most important to us, but EVERYTHING contributed to the joy of this day: (1) Antisana is breath-taking, the air was fresh and clean, and even at 13,000’ Antisana loomed above us at 18,714’, (2) the lunch at Tambo Condor (http://www.tambocondor.com/) was superb; this is where we also saw the hummingbirds and our first distant glimpse at the condors, and (3) Andres is a superior guide. He drove exceptionally well. He is well organized, so the tour was flawless. He is knowledgeable about many topics and encourages any questions about Ecuador…everything from chocolate to specifics about how the paramo functions. He is pleasant, good-natured, and professional. In summary, I HIGHLY recommend this company, Andres, and the Antisana tour.

Andres went above and beyond to make our short visit to Quito special. When he found out that I was on crutches due to a broken bone in my foot, he brought a wheelchair for the tour and then pushed me me around the old town. He was knowledgable, easy to understand, and added a lot of local flavor since he grew up here.

Highest of praise for Tour Guide Ecuador and their staff. Myself and a friend were booking a last minute trip to Ecuador over the busy holiday season and while other tour companies were not able to accommodate us on such short notice, Andres and JC made it happen. They went above and beyond to make our visit special, both in Quito, surrounding region, and Galapagos. Andres and JC are super knowledgable and passionate about their country and its culture. If you are going to Ecuador, these are the guys to contact.
We were very lucky on our first day in Quito to meet an Ecuadorian who recommended the best tour guide in the country. She put us in touch with Juan Carlos and we arranged three tours with him out of Quito. We worked out the itineraries with him. He asked us many questions about what we wanted to see and what our interests were and he tailored three fantastic days for us. We did not get just a “canned” or tired tour; we got the best and freshest.
Juan Carlos is very knowledgeable about Ecuador, its history, its ecosystems, its fauna and flora. We learned, saw and experienced so much on our crafted tours. Juan Carlos gave us a wonderful introduction to the beauty of Ecuador, the hospitality of its people, and the exquisite food. Our tours were an awesome and fun way to explore Ecuador.
We also visited Cuenca and Juan Carlos arranged for a colleague to take us on a day trip. Juan, our guide in Cuenca, was also very excellent.
I would highly recommend Juan Carlos and his tour company to anyone who is serious about learning and enjoying the wonderful country of Ecuador.

Andres led us on a wonderful full day tour of the Otavalo market, as well as surrounding markets in the area. As we were traveling with our two year old, he made special concessions to keep our toddler engaged and interested throughout the day (no easy feat)! We thoroughly enjoyed Andres extensive knowledge of the area and he had a ready response to every single one of our questions. The restaurant he took us to had excellent food for very good prices and we had a great time enjoying some of the local fare. After supper, he also took us to take a boat tour of a nearby crater lake, which was a really lovely way to end a great day. He was even so accommodating as to drop us off at Quito airport afterwards, as our flight was leaving that same night.
Highly recommended tour guide. Thank you Andres!

We visited Ecuador August 2016 and fortunately teamed up with Andrés for 3 days. His relaxed and professional approach, his local knowledge and passion was evident from the start of our 3 day adventure. Some of the highlights of our trip included downtown tour, cable car to top of the world, spending time at the middle of the world exhibition, farming community living inside a volcano, cloud Forrest tour including a visit to a hummingbird sanctuary and zip lining. We highly recommend Andrés to anyone seeking the services of a reliable, personable and obliging tour guide.

We booked Galápagos Islands during high season. Andres made it possible to get a flight within minutes! Don’t be nervous when he asks you to send money by PayPal even though you have no vouchers or documents. He comes up with them later as promised. Everything worked out as he said. You can absolutely trust him. He is punctual, smart and has a good sense of humor! And he knows his job. He organized a great time for us (and our demands are not average), thank you Andres!
We booked a tour with Andres at short notice and after we realised we had allowed far too little time in this beautiful city and country. Andres provided us with a great day tour at a perfect pace, not only showing us important sights but also educating us on the Ecuadorian way of life and society as we travelled. Highly recommended, very professional and helpful. We will definitely return and definitely use Andres’ services again.

Amazing experience. Juan Carlos and his staff took really good care of us while showing us the vast natural diversities of Ecuador. Well equipped, solid fund of knowledge in history, geography and local wildlife. Willing to tailor the tour experience according to group allowed us to feel quickly integrated with the essence of local culture. Ideally this would be the kind of tour guide we would like to have traveling anywhere around the world. We absolutely recommend them.

My husband and I booked Andres through our hotel and he is the best! We spent all day with him and he came up with a great itinerary for the day including a great place for a light lunch and then ice cream. The best part about having a private guide is the opportunity to ask all sorts of questions about the country and he added so much insight about the people and country of Ecuador. I highly recommend him!

The hotel in Quito booked a day tour for us at the last minute and we ended up spending the day with Andres Espindola. He planned the day and took us to a great local place for Empanada’s (they were amazing). Andres was extremely knowledgeable, was very friendly and we had a great day. Best part was the activities at Equator museum 00 00 00. Would highly recommend Andreas for a tour guide!!!!

We would highly recommend this tour company. As we were heading to the Galapagos followed by a trip to the Amazon with stays in Quito in between, we required a number of rides back and forth to the airport. Between Juan Carlos and Freddy, we made all our flights, on time and stress-free. It was great being picked up at the airport each time, as well. We also booked two day trips with Juan Carlos – one around Quito and the other to Otavalo. His knowledge is amazing; his English is perfect; he’s just great company and loads of fun all around. If he recommends the empanadas and ice cream for lunch, go for it — fantastic and inexpensive local food! We truly enjoyed our time spent in Ecuador, made memorable and special in large part because of Tour Guide Ecuador.

We were so fortunate to have found the delightful Juan Carlos to help us explore Quito. He was so knowledgeable and delightful, able to give us extensive history info on the old town and the beautiful churches. We were also there on the day there is Changing of the Guards at the presidential palace with the President talking to the crowds from his balcony. We would not have known about this without Juan Carlos. He was so amenable at accommodating the tour to suit us. We enjoyed the day so much that we promptly booked him again for the following day, this time out of the city initially, to the Equator and then up to the volcano, where he introduced us to the wonderful restaurant and small hotel up there. We spent the rest of the afternoon at the botanical gardens and again he was so knowledgable as a botanist, he could tell me the names of all the wonderful orchids & bromeliads in the incredible orchid houses in the gardens.
Thoroughly recommend Juan Carlos – you could not go wrong.

Andres passion and energy level was amazing. He was great with kids as well
We learned so much in one day, had good laugh a d are meavidg Quito with so much knowñwdg

We spent 2 days with Andreas, first to the Mindo Cloud Forest & then to Ottovalo Market & Cotocachi. He was a fantastic guide & was also fun to spend a full day with. He is so knowledgeable & was eager to share both the history & culture of his beautiful country. He was also flexible & will adjust the days activities to fit your preferences. It would be hard to find a better guide, we started to feel like family & will miss him.
Our group recently hired Andres for guided tours in each of Quito and Guayacil. In each city, he elegantly programmed a tour combining art, architecture, food and fun neighborhoods. We loved how he balanced explanation of historical vignettes with walks through vibrant neighborhoods and markets. We felt that our time with him was highly personalized based on our interests (which were quite varied). Not your every day guide. A great guy with plenty of his country’s culture to share!

Andreus was an excellent guide who knew a lot of the history of Quito. He was highly informative and tailored the tour to our needs. We would highly recommend him.
Andreas was our guide to Cotopaxi and he was great! He was there to pick us up on time, arranged breakfast and lunch. He also ensured we don’t feel pressurized to hurry up and see things. He gave us ample time to do things at our pace. Really enjoyed our day with Andreas, who also gave us a lot of information on Quito.
I had the great pleasure of spending 2 days with Juan Carlos on a private tour last week in and around Quito. We covered quite a lot of ground in 2 days, including the Volcano, Equator line (did some cool experiments, balanced an egg on a nail and had a tour), stopped for AMAZING empanadas, Quito old city + chocolate tasting, saw the fruit/veggie market, got a cleansing from a Shaman (so cool!) Day 2: Otavalo market, amazing weavers and musicians, and capped off with a lunch at an incredible hacienda. He speaks amazing english and is so knowledgable.
I highly recommend JC and Tour Guide Ecuador. I can’t wait to plan my next trip back to Ecuador – they will most definitely be a part of it.

Excellent tour. Highly recommended
Verty knowledgeable. Safe driver.
Friendly and courteous. Definitely would hire again.
Super guided tour exceeding our expectations. Great local and regional information and excellent English language skills. We really enjoyed our day with Andreas.
We enjoyed the bonus information on countless birds and photography tips.
Thanks for being part of our adventure vacation in Ecuador.
Andris is the best guide anyone could have asked for. He was pleasant at the get go when he picked us up and while driving he provided so much information about the history and ecology of the place. He speaks good English. He was patient and allowed us to take the time we needed. We witnessed several condors and birds. It was a real treat. We HIGHLY recommend him.

Very personable, knowledgable. Lunch spot was great local fare. Good driver nice ride. Very accommodating would recommend. Thanks for the day!
Amazing tour. Friendly, knowledgable guides who are happy to answer any and all questions. The hike up around Antisana was breathtaking, and included seeing several flying condors among other amazing birds. The food stops were delicious, and an example of amazing Ecuadorian cuisine. I will be recommending to my friends!
My husband and I and our teenage daughters enjoyed 2 amazing experiences with Tour Guide Ecuador. The day with Juan Carlos in Otavalo and Cochasqui was AMAZING. Juan Carlos had an easygoing style that made it feel like we were hanging out with a super knowledgeable friend. He tailored the day ( and lunch) to our interests and requests and entertained us with stories of his experiences and facts about the areas that we visited. He was the PERFECT guide . I would heartily recommend any tour with him and would gladly return to enjoy other trips with him.
Additionally, our day in Mindo with Jimena was outstanding! She fit in everything that we hoped to see and exposed us to an amazing set of experiences and views.
We are forever grateful and basking in the happy memories of our time in Ecuador!
On our tour, my daughter requested that we go out for cuy. Juan Carlos asked the locals for recommendations, chatted at length with the restaurant staff about the preparation and the result was the most delicious meal that we had in Ecuador!
We had a very nice experience in Ecuador and Galapagos Islands. This tour operator was very flexible and arranged all very well. We had a tour with many connections and was surprised that on all connections the reception was greatly arranged. Thank you for a life time experience!
We had a wonderful trip with Andre. Our destination was the Otavolo market, znd along the way he talked zbout the history, culture, and geography of Ecuador. We had an interesting demonstration of the Coriolis effect, a set of lovely songs from his native friend (lovely scarfs – we bought 4), a nice lunch. He is knowledgeable, accommodating, and pleasant. We recommend him highly.
We had 2 amazing private tours with Juan Carlos in the mountains of Quito. He was very enjoyable and we loved the experience.

We booked a day tour with Juan Carlos (JC) at the very last minute after another tour operator cancelled on us. We made the request at 9am and by 9:40 JC had picked us up in his van and we were on our way. Twenty minutes later we asked if he was available for the next three days – it was immediately obvious how much knowledge and passion he has for the history, people and wildlife of Ecuador and we were already having fun. Over the next three days JC developed a customized itinerary to suit our interests. JC isn’t the type of guide to just point out a landmark, let you snap a few pictures and then move on. He will know the full history of the site, the names of all the plants and animals, and usually has an interesting story or two that you would never find in a guidebook. He also takes pictures of you (we rarely get pics together when travelling!) and makes sure you are satisfied before pointing out the next interesting landmark, plant or animal. He is also a foodie and the stops we made on our food tour were delicious, and included the BEST meal we had during our 3 week trip (pork 3 ways from Cosa Finas de La Florida with cooked plantains, potatoes, hominy and a sour salsa). During all our food sampling (street vendors to restaurants) he made sure the food was prepared in a way so we wouldn’t get sick (no contact with tap water) which let us worry less and enjoy more. We would strongly recommend booking JC for your next tour in Ecuador – you will enjoy your travels so much more with him as your guide!
