We hired Juan Carlos as a guide for a day in Quito after reading about him in the New York Times (Seth Kugel, February 3, 2016). We were very happy that we did. We covered a lot of ground in one day, from sites out side of Quito, to churches, to market, and to out-of-the way restaurants for tastings. And like the NYT writer, I was “cleansed” by thrashing with herbs ($5 plus the cost of an egg to pass over me!) Juan Carlos is very pleasant and has exceptional knowledge of many areas. A day with him makes Quito all the more memorable. And one more thing: After our trip, we were missing a coat, which we had left in one of the restaurants. Juan Carlos later recovered it and is helping us to get it sent back to us in the States.
